What reaches us most often from law firms and legal departments.

How does this differ from an encrypted email attachment?

An attachment leaves your control as soon as it is sent: you do not know who forwards or prints it, or how long it sits in other people’s mailboxes. In a data room, the document stays where it is. You grant access, you can withdraw it, and you see who used it. In proceedings with several participants over a period of months, that is the real difference.

Can we enter into a confidentiality agreement with you?

Yes. For engagements where even the existence of the matter could move the share price, we have done so for years; the same offer applies to law firms and legal departments. Just ask us, and we will agree the content with you. A GDPR data processing agreement is part of every contractual relationship anyway.

How finely can access be controlled?

Separately for every person and every document. You decide who may only view a document, who may download it and who may edit it, and you can widen or narrow the group at any time. Participants cannot see one another unless you expressly want them to.

What happens to the documents once the proceedings are concluded?

The entire collection can be exported and archived, as can the access logs. We agree with you how long the data room remains in place beyond that – where proceedings have a follow-up phase, it often stays available for a while longer.

How quickly can a data room be set up?

We activate a trial at short notice, usually on the same working day. For an ongoing engagement, we set up the structure, participants and permissions together with you; how long that takes depends mainly on how well organised the documents already are.
